In 2023, the ACR Board of Chancellors (BOC) Executive Committee (EC) approved the elevation of the Medical Student Subcommittee to a section. The Medical Student Section now contains six operational subcommittees, including the Pre-Radiology Advocacy Network (RAN) Subcommittee.

The Pre-RAN Subcommittee advocates for the interests of radiologists at the local, state, and national levels, and educates medical students about legislative and regulatory developments. It encourages students to attend their ACR chapter meetings, assist with calls to action, participate in letter-writing campaigns, support fundraisers, and stay engaged with ACR RAN communications, including social media and email outreach.
